Frequently Asked Questions

What should I wear?

Smart casual is perfect (no jeans, shorts, or T-shirts please!), but feel free to dress up! Please note as per the venue rules, shoes will need to be removed at the entrance and going bare foot is not permitted, so please plan to wear socks or tights.

For ladies: dresses, skirts or elegant jumpsuits are all wonderful choices.

For gentlemen: chinos or tailored trousers and a collared shirt will be perfect. Suits and ties are not required but are always welcome!

Most importantly, we want you to feel comfortable and ready to celebrate with us. If you'd like some inspiration, please see the reference photos here.

For the after-party, if you wish, feel free to switch into something more casual and relaxed — for dancing, mingling, and having a great time!

Can I wear Japanese traditional clothing?

If you'd like to take this opportunity to wear traditional Japanese attire, we would absolutely love that. Please let us know — we'd be happy to recommend some shops for hiring.

Can the venue accommodate dietary requirements and food preferences?

Yes! We have a range of menu options to suit different preferences — from pescatarian to vegan, and a no raw fish variant for those who prefer it. Just choose your preference from the drop down list within the RSVP form! If you have any allergy or dietary restrictions, please make sure to note this in your RSVP. Additionally, The venue will also do their best to accommodate other dislikes or preferences beyond dietary restrictions (for example, a particular ingredient you don't enjoy), so please don't hesitate to note anything in your RSVP.

What time should I arrive?

We are expecting welcome drinks to start around mid-day, but we will confirm the exact schedule closer to the date.

Can I attend only the main event or just the after-party?

We'd love to have you at both, but absolutely — you're welcome to attend just the main event or just the after-party if that works better for you. Just let us know in your RSVP!

Where's the after-party venue? Will there be shuttles?

The after-party venue is still being finalised, but it will be in central Tokyo so it's easy to get to from anywhere in the city. For guests attending the main event, we'll be providing a shuttle from the main venue to the after-party — no need to worry about getting there! For the journey home, there won't be a shuttle, but taxis are readily available on the street. More details will be shared closer to the date, but for now, please let us know in your RSVP if you plan to join us for the after party so we can plan accordingly.

What's the RSVP deadline?

Please submit your RSVP by 31 October 2026. If you're not able to decide by the deadline, please reach out to us directly — we'll be happy to help.

Are gifts expected?

No gifts are expected — we're so grateful that you're making the journey all the way to Japan to celebrate with us. It already means so much, and we know it's no small commitment. We'll be heading back to the UK afterward, so your presence and company are truly all we could ask for!

Can guests take photos during the day?

Yes, absolutely! We'd love for you to capture the moments and share them with us afterward. After the wedding, we'll provide a link to a shared album where you can upload your photos so everyone can enjoy them.

Do I need to speak Japanese?

Not at all! We'll have bilingual staff. All signage will be in both Japanese and English.

What's the weather like in May?

May is one of the most enjoyable times to visit Tokyo, with warm and pleasant weather. Daytime temperatures are usually around 20–25°C, while evenings can cool down to around 15°C. We recommend bringing a light layer for after sunset. Overall, it's a wonderful time of year to visit, with comfortable temperatures and long, bright days.

Is the ceremony/reception outdoors or indoors?

Most of the day will be held indoors, but there will be opportunities to enjoy the beautiful garden from the waiting rooms before and after the ceremony if you'd like!

Can I bring additional guests?

Each invitation allows for up to 2 additional guests, though this may vary depending on the invite. If you'd like to bring more, please reach out to us directly and we'll see what we can do.

Are children welcome?

Absolutely! We'd love to have little ones join us. The venue can provide a kids' menu if requested. If you're planning to bring children, please let us know in RSVP and state their age in "Any other requests" field, so we can make everything ready for them.

Is there Wi-Fi?

Yes, there is Wi-Fi available in the venue. Please ask the staff on the day.

Is there parking?

Unfortunately, there is no parking available at the venue. It would be easiest to get there by public transport or taxi. If you are driving, please use nearby public parking facilities.

Is there a cloakroom?

Yes! The venue has a cloakroom and is happy to look after your luggage, including large items such as suitcases. Please note that valuables cannot be stored.

Any recommendations for dining and travelling in Japan?

As many of you know, we're a bit of a foodie, so we're happy to share some of our favourite restaurants in Tokyo:

🥩 Jojoen Yakiniku — Our favourite yakiniku restaurant, with many locations across the city.

🥟 Jin Din Rou — Great dim sum. Chen's favourite is the chocolate xiaolongbao — trust us on this one!

🔥 WAKANUI Grill Dining Bar Tokyo — Superb New Zealand lamb. A must if you love a good grill. If you're dining in the evening, you'll be treated to a stunning view of the illuminated Tokyo Tower.

🍣 Tsukiji Sushiko — Casual but great quality sushi, with many locations. More foreigner-friendly than the very traditional style spots, so a great option if you want excellent sushi without the intimidation factor.

🐔 Koumesan — Yakitori (chicken skewers) is one of our favourite Japanese foods, but we are yet to find THE Yakitori restaurant we love. We recommend Koumesan from our previous trip — but let us know if you find one you love!

💡 Finding good restaurants: We recommend using Tabelog over Google Reviews — Google tends to skew towards foreign reviews, whereas Tabelog reflects what Japanese locals actually think. Japanese diners tend to be quite particular, so a 4-star rating is rare — don't be put off by 3.5+ stars, you won't be disappointed!

♨️ For a relaxing getaway, we also love our favourite hot spring hotel in Hakone, which is very easy to reach from Tokyo: Matsuzakaya Honten. It's perfect if you want to enjoy traditional Japanese hospitality and unwind in the onsen.

If you want more recommendations on anything specific, feel free to reach out to us!
